Brookland-Cayce defeats Airport
Brookland-Cayce defeated Airport Friday night at Fort Knox by a score of 31-20.
First BC quarterback Tanner Staton hit Jayden Johnson for a TD to put BC up 7-0. Then Staton hit Evan Golden with a TD strike in the 1st quarter for ta 14-0 lead. Jon Allen Mower hit both PATs.
Airport’s Apollos Cook scored a TD with 1:16 left in the opening quarter to make it 14-7, BC.
The Bearcats answered when Jackson Thomas caught a Staton TD to put the Bearcats up 21-7 with 9:53 left in the 2nd period.
An Airport interception by Kendall Stroman was returned for a TD to cut the BC lead to 21-14 in the second quarter. Brookland-Cayce’s Naahzeikial Mays came back and put a TD on the board with 58 seconds left before halftime to make it 28-14 in favor of BC.
The Bearcats’ Benjamin Pugh picked off Airport’s Kyle Chavis on Airport’s 1st drive of 2nd half and Mower hit a field goal to put the Bearcats up 31-14 with 9:14 left in the third.
A Marcus Dwyer short TD run for Airport cut the BC lead to 31-20 with 2:45 left in 3rd after the Airport long PAT was not good after a penalty.
The Eagles drove to BC’s 3-yard-line on its next possession, but the Bearcats defense held and BC got the ball back. The Eagles failed to convert on its last possession and the Bearcats were able to run out the clock.
