Brickhouse Gourmet Coffee cuts the ribbon at its new location on Meeting Street in West Columbia in front of a large crowd

Brickhouse Gourmet Coffee and Tea Company cut the ribbon at its new location in front of a large crowd. The event was sponsored by the Greater Cayce-West Columbia Chamber of Commerce. Brickhouse recently moved to 725 Meeting Street in West Columbia.

West Columbia City Councilman Joseph Dickey described Brickhouse, owned by Akera and Alexis Sellers, as the neighborhood coffee shop and it looked like the whole neighborhood showed up for the ribbon-cutting, Tuesday. There was a two-piece band playing inside, too. Dickey also said the shop has the best coffee and its great to have it in a growing West Columbia business district.

Akera, who is from New York City, said he, at one time, planned to open his shop in Atlanta, but he is glad he chose West Columbia instead. He said West Columbia is a loving community. He also said he loves it and he’s thankful for all the support he has received.

C-WC Chamber President and CEO, Tim James, said businesses like Brickhouse are what West Columbia needs and he stressed the importance of small businesses.

George Grogan, owner of Always Original Bakery on Meeting Street, said it has been wonderful to watch Brickhouse Coffee grow. He also said Brickhouse could have opened anywhere, but they chose West Columbia.
