Body found in the Congaree River in Calhoun County was a Lexington County man

The offices of Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers and Coroner Donnie Porth released a statement Thursday identifying the man found dead along the Congaree River, Saturday afternoon, in the Sandy Run area.

The body was that of Eddie Leon Norris, 45, of Leesville.

Newberry Pathology conducted an autopsy on Wednesday. The death of Norris and the circumstances surrounding it are under investigation. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Lab is handling a toxicology report and that hasn’t been released.

Summers said that investigators have accounted for Norris’s whereabouts until early December.

“Based on the evidence, so far, we do not believe there is any foul play involved,” Summers said in a statement. “But my investigators will continue to work closely with the Coroner’s Office until we have determined the cause and manner of death.”

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about Norris or the incident to call the Investigation Division at 803-874-2741.
