Body found in quarry adjacent to the Congaree River
Columbia Police reported the discovery of a body of a white male Monday in the rock quarry off Bluff Road, Columbia.
The discovery was made during the the search for a missing University of South Carolina student. Michael Keen, a 22-year-old University of South Carolina student has been missing.
Several Columbia Police units were on the scene at Vulcan Materials Company on Georgia Street, Monday. The quarry is beside the Martin Marietta Materials quarry in Cayce. The tow quarries are separated by the Congaree River.
A SLED helicopter flew over the quarry Monday morning and discovered the body.
It was confirmed that it was a bady as officers searched on foot.
Police have not confirmed if the body is related to the missing USC student, but Keene had been reported missing in an area less than a mile from the quarry.
