Blended Bakery food truck expected to be in West Columbia, Thursday

There’s a new food truck in West Columbia.

The Blended Bakery pulled up to the Carolina Food Truck Court on Meeting Street, next-to Good Wood Furniture, in West Columbia, Tuesday morning.

The Blended Bakery is also scheduled to be in West Columbia, Thursday, and Friday. Hours are from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m.

It’s easy to recognize because the food truck is actually a converted trolley.

“Everything we make is trolley-baked and trolley-made,” said DJ Stone, who owns Blended Bakery with his wife, Teresa Stone. “It’s all made from scratch.”

DJ said he and Teresa have six children between them, hence the name “blended” bakery.

Tuesday was the first day for the business at the Meeting Street location. Stone said he was in Red Bank before. The trolley is also featured at festivals, most recently the Oktoberfest in Newberry. It has been stationed in Columbia, Camden, Elgin and Lexington, too.

Stone said The Blended Bakery’s menu is fresh and farm-to-table. Much of the food is in season, locally. Items include BBQ dinner pie and Shepherd’s pie, using local pork and beef.

Stone said the menu changes at the first of each month. October was a little more German-themed in keeping with Oktoberfest. November will include a taste of Thanksgiving.

Pastries include custom cakes, and cupcakes. Decadent chocolate and red velvet are popular. Kelly Coley was in the trolley Tuesday. He’s the cake artist, Stone said.

While things were a little slow Tuesday morning, Stone, who has a background in accounting and finance, is confident. He knows his following.  “We have built a clientele,” he said. “People will find us.”
