Beautiful sunshine forecast for Saturday’s Kinetic Derby Day – Merchants excited

Kinetic Derby Day is the biggest event of the spring. It takes place on Meeting and State streets in West Columbia from 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., Saturday (April 23.) The weather forecast is mostly sunny, with a high temperature of 83 degrees.

“It will be the most-beautiful day of spring,” said West Columbia Mayor Tem Miles. “Bring your family to the West Side and enjoy Kinetic Derby Day. My family will be there and my daughters, Cate and Charlotte, will be behind the wheel in the soapbox derby races.” Miles also encouraged visitors to go to the Soiree on State in Cayce after Kinetic Derby ends.

Businesses in the area are taking advantage of the large crowd that will be on hand for Kinetic Derby Day.
“We’re incredibly excited about Kinetic Derby,” said George Grogan of Always Original Bakery at 501 Meeting St. “It’s right at our front door.”

Grogan said Always Original will set up a tent in their parking lot Saturday and serve breakfast options in the morning and bakery favorites all day. “Kinetic Derby Day is the biggest thing to happen since we opened. We’re very thankful to the City of West Columbia for providing this event for the people to enjoy.”

Just across from Always Original, Nordan and Foster Upholstery is observing more than just Kinetic Derby Day.
Nordan and Foster Upholstery, at 500 Meeting Street, is celebrating its 71st Anniversary  from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Drop by Nordan and Foster Upholstery for hot dogs and cake.

“We’re really looking forward to Kinetic Derby Day and all the people at our doorstep,” said Kathy Foster, who owns Nordan and Foster Upholstery with her son, Houston Nordan. “We’re very thankful that the City of West Columbia is having this event.”
