Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher states that an autopsy was performed on Thursday, on 14-year-old Lewis N. Simpkins to determine the cause of death. He collapsed on the field during football practice at River Bluff High School Wednesday.
Fisher states that after a comprehensive post-mortem exam, further studies are still needed to determine the cause of death.
“The results are inconclusive as of now. We are awaiting the test results of several studies that should take several more days to complete. We want to be as thorough as possible in our investigation.” Fisher states that as soon as a conclusive cause of death is determined, those results will be released.
The Lexington County Coroner’s Office continues to investigate.
