Assistant principal accused of taking down student is back on the job at Brookland-Cayce High School
The Lexington Two School District is disputing an assault claim against one of its administrators.
Brookland-Cayce Assistant Principal Leon Brunson was accused of assault and unlawful conduct toward a child on May 25, by the Cayce Police Department.
Brunson intervened in a fight between two students last week and took down one of the participants. The student claimed that the contact with Brunson resulted in injury.
Brunson was arrested, but he was back at school in his role as assistant principal Tuesday after a brief suspension. Lexington Two Attorney Jake Moore said Brunson used reasonable restraint and Brunson was not wrong to break up the fight between the two students.
The City of Cayce released video shot from 60 yards away of the incident involving Brunson and the student last week. The City of Cayce also released a video of Brunson intervening in a student altercation in March of 2020, where he threw the student to the ground.
According to a City of Cayce press release, Cayce Police conducted a full investigation. Moore said Lexington Two conducted a more thorough investigation and found Brunson’s use of restraint to be reasonable.
