Airport takes a loss at Gilbert
Airport’s Kerryon Richardson scored on third play of the game on a toss play for 63 yards. But the Eagles were not able to get much going on offense after that.
Gilbert got hot in the second half and pulled away from Airport for a 28-7 win, Friday at Gilbert.
Gilbert is now 4-0. Airport falls to 1-2.
The teams were tied at the half, but Gilbert’s Catriez Cook scored on a run from four yards out with 2:13 in third quarter to give Gilbert a 14 7 lead.
After an Airport punt, Gilbert QB Josh Strickland hit Peyton Loper with a 17-yard scoring strike with 9:51 left in the game. The Riser Gramling extra point was good to make it 21-7.
Cook scored again on a fourth-and-two from the Airport 25 to push the final score to 28-7.
Gilbert’s Dylan McNatt had an interception and the Indians ran out the clock.
