Airport High School’s Student Council receives top national award
Airport High School’s Student Council has been honored with a top national award.
The council has been recognized as a 2021 National Gold Council of Excellence by the National Student Council. It’s the fifth consecutive year Airport High’s Student Council has received the award, which is given annually to schools with an exemplary record of leadership, service and activities that aim to improve the school and community.
“Seeing our student leaders rally around our school, community and those we serve during the challenges of COVID-19, and a very different school year, gives me so much hope for our future,” said Daniel Bailey, advisor to the Airport council. “Our students have persisted and been relentless in serving their school and community during some very challenging times, but with our servant leaders, we have persevered.”
Among requirements of a National Council of Excellence Award, a council must demonstrate successful sponsorship and participation in activities such as leadership development and service to the school and community. Councils like Airport’s, which are awarded at the gold level, have successfully demonstrated the highest levels of leadership.
“Our council has maintained this prestigious recognition since 2017,” Bailey said, “and I could not be more proud of our students.”
Also earlier this month, Airport was recognized as a Gold Council of Excellence at the 73rd annual state convention of the South Carolina Association of Student Councils. It is the fifth consecutive year Airport has received the award. Airport will be host to the organization’s state convention in March 2022.
