Airport High School brought home top honors from the weekend’s annual state convention of the South Carolina Association of Student Councils.

Airport – which hosted this year’s event at the school – was recognized as a Gold Council of Excellence for the sixth consecutive year.  In addition, Davis Nix, a senior at Airport and student body president, was awarded the Terry McCoy Leadership Hall of Fame award.

The state convention, held March 11-13, drew hundreds of student leaders from 45 SC schools to the Lexington Two high school for workshops, featured speakers, networking, and other activities.

Under the leadership of outgoing 2021-2022 SCASC president and Airport student Liz Schaffer, the association’s councils took on the first-ever statewide service project for Ready to Love, a foundation that supports foster children. Member councils prepared roughly 1,000 bags of comfort and hygiene items for donation.

Christy Wingard, one of Airport student council’s advisers, credits her council members for the conference’s success.

“Our council worked incredibly hard for State 2022,” Wingard said.  “We are proud of our accomplishments and for representing Airport and Lexington Two.  Personally, I could not be more proud of our student council.  This is a fantastic group of young people.”
