Airport, Gray Collegiate get first-round playoff wins Friday night

Colleton County at Airport, Friday.

Airport picked up a win in the first round of the S.C. High School playoffs, defeating Colleton County, 21-14, at Airport, Friday night.

Airport now moves on to play Lower Richland next week in round two, at Lower Richland. Lower Richland defeated Marlboro County 20-14, Friday. 

Gray Collegiate Academy beat Fox Creek 42-7 in the 2A playoffs.
Gray QB Hunter Helms was 15/18 for 363 yards passing, with 4 TD’s. OD Dollison had 3 TD’s and 200 yards receiving. KZ Adams rushed for 159 yards and 2 TD’s.

In the Airport game Colleton County was the road team but made themselves at home in the first quarter versus the Eagles. The Cougars got on the board first to take a 7-0 lead in the opening quarter. Airport responded with a touchdown in the second quarter, and that closed out the scoring for both teams in the first half. The score at intermission was tied at 7.

Airport scored last in the first half and added another touchdown in the third quarter for a 14-7 lead. Both teams had a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Airport held on in the end for the 21-14 win. 

The 4A Region 5 Eagles improve their record to 8-3 with the win. The Cougars fall to 3-7 with the loss.
