Airport cruises to playoff win over Brookland-Cayce
Cam Beckham hit a three-run homer in the first inning for Airport. The blast set the tone as the Eagles posted a 10-0 win, in a six-inning, shortened affair over Brookland-Cayce.
The crosstown rivals squared off in round two of the Region VII S.C. High School Baseball playoffs, Thursday. Dalton Mims got the win for Airport. Hayden Thomas took the loss for BC.
The Eagles scored three runs in the sixth for the 10-run rule victory. Airport scored in every inning but the second and had 10 hits on the night. BC managed just two hits.
“We’re in about as good a shape as we can be in,” said Airport head baseball coach Tim Perry. He said Mims threw less than 60 pitches in the complete game win over the Bearcats. The Eagles have plenty of rested arms left moving forward.
Airport does not play again until Monday. The Eagles will play either Beaufort, Darlington or BC. Whichever team Airport plays will have to beat the Eagles twice to advance in the playoffs. So far Airport has beaten Darlington and BC. The Bearcats defeated Beaufort. Darlington and Beaufort were playing an elimination game Thursday night.
Perry said he would put his team through a light practice Friday. Brookland-Cayce plays again Saturday versus the winner of the Darlington versus Beaufort game.
