A late score and Gray Collegiate falls to Oceanside in the 2A State Championship High School Football Game

Gray Collegiate Academy fell to Oceanside, Thursday night in the 2A State High School Football Championship game. It was played on the campus of SC State University in Orangeburg. Final score Oceanside 35, Gray 28.

Gray jumped out to a 14-0 lead on a 32-yard TD pass from Tyler Waller to Jamarious Lockett and a five-yard rushing TD by BJ Montgomery. The War Eagles were up 14-7 at halftime.

But on Oceanside’s drive to open the third quarter the Landsharks scored a TD to tie the score at 14. Then, with five minutes left in the third quarter, Oceanside picked off a Gray pass and returned it for a touchdown to put the Landsharks up, 21-14. Gray received the kick-off and on the first play from scrimmage, Tyler Waller threw a TD pass to Zion Job to tie the score at 21.

As the third quarter ended, Oceanside scored a touchdown on a 36-yard pass play to take a 28-21 lead.

After a Justin Pauling interception, Gray drove the ball to the Landsharks 14 and Montgomery scored a TD from there to tie the score at 28 with 5:47 left in the game. On its possession, Oceanside converted on a fourth-and-six and on the next play scored a TD with 1:26 left in the game. The War Eagles moved the ball to the Oceanside 23-yard-line but could not get to the goal line.
