Gray Collegiate gets win in 2A State Baseball Playoffs

Gray Collegiate after win, Monday.

Gray Collegiate defeated East Clarendon Monday night by a score of 5-1, Monday night, in 2A state baseball playoffs. The game was played at the Midland Baseball Complex in West Columbia.
“We’re happy to be playing another game, that’s all we can ask for.” said Gray head baseball coach Charles Assey. 

Wyatt Keisler was the winning pitcher for the War Eagles. Keisler got off to a strong start in the top of the first with three consecutive strikeouts. 
And Gray got things goiing offensively early thanks to a Matt Willis triple in the first inning that would send home Guy Epps. Then Keisler hit a sacrifice fly to bring Willis home. Gray was up 2-0. 

In the top of the fourth, the Wolverines looked poised to rally with three runners on, but a Dalton Hale and Bryce Sox double play followed by a Keisler strikeout would leave the bases loaded for East Clarendon.
In the bottom of the fourth, Xander McKenzie scored on a wild pitch to put the War Eagles  up, 3-0. 

Gray would extend the lead to 5-0 in the next inning with a Guy Epps double to score Mason Eadey followed by a Matt Willis single to send Epps home. 
In the bottom of the seventh, East Clarendon threatened to come back with three runners on base. Keisler walked home a run, making the score 5-1. So This Gray head coach Coach Charles Assey to brought in Epps to close. 

Epps made it quick, ending the game with a strikeout.

After the game Assey particularly highlighted Keisler’s stellar pitching performance. 
“He did a great job,” said Assey. “It’s just what we needed.” 
The War Eagles will travel to Charleston Wednesday to take on their sister school, Oceanside Academy, in the Lower State Championship.
