Man dies in crash after police pursuit in Batesburg
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who died in a vehicle collision following a police pursuit. The collision occurred in the 300 block of Highland Avenue in Batesburg at approximately 11:40 p.m., Wednesday.
According to Coroner Fisher, Mr. Jawara A. Brunson, 26, of Batesburg was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the collision. Brunson, police said, attempted to evade a traffic stop initiated by an officer from the Batesburg-Leesville Police Department, which led to a brief pursuit.
Brunson lost control of his vehicle, left the right side of the road and over-corrected, causing his vehicle to collide with a tree and overturn. Brunson was not wearing a seatbelt when the collision occurred.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.The coroner’s office offered condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Brunson.
