From governor to agriculture commissioner, there are several candidates running for statewide offices. 

The general election is Tuesday. Polls are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Below is a list of the candidates in some high-profile S.C. races that are on the ballot.

In the South Carolina governor’s race Republican Gov. Henry McMaster is being challenged by Democratic state Rep. James Smith. Both men are from Columbia.

McMaster’s running mate is Greenville businesswoman Pamela Evette. Smith‘s running mate is state Rep. Mandy Powers Norrell of Lancaster.

In the South Carolina attorney general’s race Republican Attorney General Alan Wilson of Lexington is being challenged by Democratic candidate Constance Anastopoulo, a Charleston School of Law professor.

Republican Education Superintendent Molly Spearman, of Saluda, is running for a second term. Spearman’s Democratic opponent, former college professor Israel Romero of Spartanburg, dropped out of the race after it was revealed he had a felony conviction for the unauthorized practice of law, so he could not serve if elected.

Charleston teacher Michele Phillips has announced as a write-in candidate for education superintendent.

Republican Mark Hammond of Spartanburg is running for his fifth term as secretary of state. The Spartanburg Hammond faces Democrat Melvin Whittenburg of Columbia.

West Columbia Republican Curtis Loftis is running for his third term as South Carolina’s treasurer.

There are two candidates challenging Loftis Tuesday’s ballot — Democrat Rosalyn Glenn of Wellford, a former banking administrator and financial consultant, and Sarah Work, an accountant running on the American Party ticket.

GOP incumbent Richard Eckstrom of Lexington County is running unopposed for comptroller general. It would be his fifth term in the office. Eckstrom did not have a primary opponent either.

Republican Agriculture Commissioner Hugh Weathers of Bowman is running for a fourth term.

There is no Democrat running, but Weathers is being challenged by David Edmond of the Green Party and Chris Nelums of United Citizens Party.

In the 2nd District for the U.S. House of Representatives Republican U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson of Springdale is being challenged by Democrat Sean Carrigan, a realtor of Chapin.

In the State Senate District 20 race Republican Benjamin Dunn, a Ballentine attorney and Democratic attorney Dick Harpootlian, of Columbia are running.
