Brookland-Cayce Foundation postpones Membership and Barbecue Supper until Tuesday
The contents of a mystery box found tucked away behind the Class of 1931 brick at Brookland-Cayce High School will stay under wraps a bit longer.
With Lexington Two schools and offices closed Thursday, October 11, due to expected inclement weather from Hurricane Michael, the Brookland-Cayce High School Foundation’s Annual Membership and Barbecue Supper originally scheduled for that evening will now be held Tuesday, October 16.
Crews working this summer to renovate the exterior of the Brookland-Cayce High School auditorium removed a brick engraved with “Class of 1931.” Stowed away behind that brick, workers found a medium-sized rectangular box, slightly rusted and soldered shut.
The box will be opened — for the first time since its discovery — during the Brookland-Cayce High School Foundation’s annual event.
That rescheduled supper and meeting starts at 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 16, in the Brookland-Cayce High cafeteria. A barbecue supper, with all the fixins’, will be served; take-out hour is 5-6 p.m.
The Brookland-Cayce High School Education Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports and promotes educational programs at the Lexington 2 school.
Tickets are $30 and include an associate membership. Tickets may be purchased in advance at
