The City of Cayce and the Cayce Historical Museum will hold the Congaree Heritage Day of Unity from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Oct. 13, at the Cayce Historical Museum.

The Heritage Day of Unity is a free family-friendly event to showcase Native America culture through dance, music, authentic craft demonstrations and storytelling. Skills including flint-knapping and pottery-making will also be demonstrated. Experience the central role of dance in in native culture with the performance of the traditional “Candy Dance” for children.

There will be free tours of the Cayce Historical Museum which has one of the largest collections of Native American artifacts, with almost 8,000 arrowheads, in the Southeast.

There will also be reenactments from the Revolutionary War, the War between the States, with cannon fire, and reenactments from World War I and World War II.

There will be a food vendor selling hamburgers, hot dogs, and bar-b-que. There will be sno-cones for sale, too. The local Boy Scouts Troop 339 will sell popcorn.

Presentations include Cherokee Paths, Native American Hunting, Bagpipes, Stone Petroglyphs, Native Americans and the Confederacy, Kid’s Candy Dance, Pee Dee Cherokee, Flint knapping, and planting of the cedar “Unity Tree.”
