Airport beats BC to win conference crown
Airport defeated Brookland-Cayce, 38-27, on Sunday afternoon.
It is the second time the two teams played this year. BC won the first game. The game was moved to Sunday because of bad weather forecasts for Friday night.
The Bearcats jumped out to a 14-0 lead, but had four turnovers, that the Eagles took advantage of. Airport turned the ball over six times in the first meeting versus B-C but didn’t have any turnovers in the game Sunday.
The win snapped Airport’s three-game losing streak to B-C. And with the win, the Eagles are co-Region 5-4A champions, along with North Augusta. Airport plays either Marlboro County, North Myrtle Beach or Wilson in a first-round playoff game Nov. 9.
If Brookland-Cayce would have won, the Bearcats would have been the region champion. But BC is a fourth seed and will travel to Beaufort in the first round of the playoffs.
