In celebration of its 30th anniversary, the S.C. State Museum is opening a new exhibit Saturday. The special exhibit will include artifacts and fossils the museum has acquired over the past 30 years.

A saber-tooth cat skull will be on display, along with some other items being exhibited for the first time.

According to the museum’s Public Relations Manager Jared Glover, the exhibit will highlight the museum’s collection of history, science, technology, cultural history, and art, to help tell the story of South Carolina.

Some of the natural history items will include a 4.5 billion-year-old meteorite, and a 77 million-year-old dinosaur toe. Cultural items on display will include a gown worn by (North Myrtle Beach native) Vanna White on Wheel of Fortune, and a 76-year-old loaf of bread made by an army cook at Fort Jackson During World War II. Science-related items on display in the exhibit will include an iron lung, manufactured in Columbia during the 1960s.

There will also be more than 4,000 pieces of artwork on display. The art is from award-winning artists in all mediums.

The exhibit is included in general admission into the museum. Prices for admission are $8.95 for adults, $7.95 for seniors, $6.95 for children, and free for ages two-years-old and under.
