Man charged in connection to West Columbia bank robbery
A Swansea man has been charged in connection with a West Columbia bank robbery Wednesday morning.
Timithy McCants, 58, demanded money by presenting a note to a teller at the First Citizens branch on Sunset Boulevard, according to detectives. He is charged with robbery and entering a bank with intent to steal, according to arrest warrants.
Investigators said he ran away from the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash and got into a taxi cab waiting for him at Lexington Medical Center.
“Thanks to help from the hospital’s Department of Public Safety and the FBI, we tracked the cab to a location in Gaston,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “We made contact with the suspect and arrested him without incident.”
Deputies recovered clothing McCants was wearing in images downloaded from the bank’s video security system, according to Koon. The money taken during the robbery was also recovered.
McCants is being held in the Lexington County Detention Center while he awaits a bond hearing.
