Boy, 9, dies in collision on I-20, Thursday
One person died in a three-vehicle accident on I-20, Thursday.
The collision occurred in the eastbound lane in the vicinity of mile markers 63 and 64, between Bush River Road and the I-26 exit.
All eastbound lanes were closed at one point, but the area was being cleared, and traffic was moving later Thursday afternoon. As the clean up was in progress, drivers were asked to find alternate routes.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified nine-year-old Kade Crocker of Lexington as the individual who died in the collision that occurred shortly before 1 p.m.
According to Coroner Fisher, Crocker was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash. The vehicle, in which Mr. Crocker was a passenger, collided with a vehicle that had stopped in the left lane to assist a disabled vehicle in the center lane. Mr. Crocker was properly restrained when the incident occurred. The driver of the vehicle he was in was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The collision is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
