Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who died in a motor vehicle collision.  It occurred in the 3500 block of Augusta Highway near Gilbert at approximately 5:50 a.m on Wednesday.

According to Fisher, Ms. Margaret Anne Burke, 61, of Batesburg was pronounced dead at the scene.

Burke was traveling north on Augusta Highway when she was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle. Burke was wearing a seatbelt when the incident occurred. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to an area hospital with reportedly serious injuries. The collision is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
