A Gilbert High School freshman has been charged after threatening to shoot some of his classmates and their family members.

Lexington County investigators detained the male suspect, whose name will not be released because he’s under the age of 17, Tuesday evening at his home. He’s charged with disturbing schools, harassment and breach of peace. He’s being held by the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.

“Gilbert High administrators notified our school resource officer about the threats Tuesday afternoon after three students related details of what the suspect had said and posted to social media,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “These threats are always taken seriously and this is an example of how a strong relationship between administration and the SRO creates a level of safety and protection on a campus.”

Koon said the investigation into the threats is ongoing. The teen will appear in Lexington County Family Court at a later date.

Teen accused of threatening Chapin school shooting is detained

A Chapin High School student has been charged with disturbing schools, breach of peace and malicious injury to real property.

Lexington County investigators detained the male suspect, whose name will not be released because he’s under the age of 17, Wednesday morning at the school. He’s being held by the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.

“Our investigation into this threat began Monday when we became aware of a statement written on the wall of a Chapin High restroom,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “We take every threat, no matter its form, very seriously. Thanks to our work together with Lexington-Richland District 5, we were able to identify this suspect and hold him accountable.”

Koon said the investigation into the threat is ongoing. The teen will appear in Lexington County Family Court at a later date.
