With a win over No. 1 seed Timberland Friday, Brookland-Cayce earned a chance to go to Dillon to take on the undefeated Wildcats (13-0.)

It’s a showdown for the 3A Lower State championship, and a chance to play for the state crown. The same two teams played for the Lower State top spot last year, with Dillon winning at BC.

“We’ll have our work cut out for us,” said BC head football coach Rusty Charpia. He also said his team is playing well.

“In our three playoff games no one has scored on us in the second half,” said Charpia. “We’ve outscored our opponents by more than 70 points to nothing, in the second half.” The Bearcats (9-4) defeated Loris, at Fort Knox in Cayce. BC also has road wins at Wade Hampton, in addition to the Timberland victory.

Brookland-Cayce has been explosive on offense since starting quarterback Reed Charpia returned from an injury. The BC coach also said his defense has been impressive.

“The defense is really playing well,” said Charpia. “They are tackling better, and doing a good job.”

Dillon head football coach Jackie Hayes said his defense triggered his offense in a 34-7 win over previously undefeated Gilbert, last Friday.

Hayes said his defense played it’s best football of the year versus the Indians. He also said the defensive play was a key to the win, because it helped the Wildcats’ effort on offense.

Before the Bearcats went to Timberland and won, Charpia said his team seemed to peaking at the right time. He said BC will have to play well, Friday.

“We’ll have to play very good football to have a chance,” said Charpia. “We can’t play sloppy.” Dillon has not had any close games. We will have to keep it close until the fourth quarter. They are a powerhouse. If we can play close, anything can happen.”
