A swimming advisory has been issued for the Lower Saluda and Congaree rivers from the Lower Landing at Saluda Shoals Park to the Rosewood Boat Landing on the Congaree. Five of the sites sampled Wednesday had e.coli results above the state standard for contact recreation, according to the Congaree Riverkeeper.
Contact recreation (swimming, wading, tubing, paddling) is not recommended in the advisory area. At risk groups (including children, people with compromised immune systems, and people with open wounds) should use extreme caution.
Follow up samples were collected Thursday afternoon and those results will be available Friday.
