The addition of another landmark building on the Brookland-Cayce High School campus is being scheduled.

At the Lexington School District Two Board meeting in August, architect Todd Sease said builders would like to begin vertical construction at the first of 2018 on the new basketball/volleyball arena planned for the school. An early-site package could begin before the end of the year.

With the announcement that Columbia will be a host site for an NCAA post-season basketball regional in 2019, plans are to make the new BC arena available as a practice facility for the NCAA basketball teams in the Columbia regional.

BC’s football stadium was opened in August of 2014 on Knox-Abbott Drive.

In October of 2016, plans were announced for the 1,500-seat Brookland High School basketball arena at 613 Knox-Abbott Drive, Cayce. It is to be built on 3.10 acres that was the former site of the Motel 6.

Cayce Mayor Elise Partin loves the idea of the new arena.

“It will be stunning,” Partin said.

According to Sease, the new arena will have more parking, a weight room, locker rooms, space for trophy cases and concessions, according to Sease.

Jumper, Carter Sease is the architect firm designing the $10.5 million facility. Thompson Turner Construction would be the contractors building it.

Plans for the building is for it to be built 25-feet off of Knox-Abbott Drive. The facade of the arena arena would be similar to the Brookland-Cayce High School Football Stadium that is east of the site where the arena is planned.

The construction is being funded by the $225 million bond referendum that Lexington Two voters passed in 2014.
