City of Cayce, Department of Public Safety partner with Lexington Two Schools for Cayce Elementary resource officer
The City of Cayce and the Cayce Department of Public Safety have announced a partnership with Lexington School District Two to provide a School Resource Officer for the new Cayce Elementary School.
Cayce Department of Public Safety Director, Byron Snellgrove, stated, “It is obvious to me that when younger children have positive interactions with police it builds relationships and trust that can last a lifetime. What better place to start building those relationships than in daycares, kindergartens and elementary schools. I am extremely proud that we are involved in this unique program.”
The Department will pay for the SRO for the first school year. Although the city has historically had SROs in the Cayce middle schools, this is the first time that a full-time SRO is working exclusively in one elementary school.
“We are thankful for the many ways the school district and the city partner to make our community great. Providing a School Resource Officer for Cayce Elementary, the newest school in our district, is exciting for us. It’s not just a great collaboration to keep students and teachers safe but School Resource Officers bring caring and mentoring to school,” stated Cayce Mayor Elise Partin.
“The Board of Trustees, Administration, and staff of Lexington School District Two wish to thank the City of Cayce for providing a Resource Officer for the new Cayce Elementary School. Through this generous act of partnership, the City of Cayce has increased the safety of our students and staff,” stated Dr. Bill James, Lexington Two Superintendent.
