Victim of fatal Fernandina Road collision identified by coroner
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who died as a result of a motor vehicle collision on Fernandina Road at approximately 9: p.m. on Wednesday.
According to Coroner Fisher, Mrs. Alexandra Hammond, 27, of Columbia was pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries sustained in the collision. The vehicle driven by Hammond left the road to the right side; she then over-corrected, crossed the center line, and was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
Hammond was not wearing a seat belt when the collision occurred. Her passenger, who was restrained, was transported to an area hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver and passenger of the other vehicle also sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The collision remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
