City of West Columbia’s Mike Bollinger wins State Backhoe Rodeo Championship

Mike Bollinger, City of West Columbia equipment operator in the Public Works Department won the American Public Works Association (APWA) 33rd Annual State Championship Backhoe Rodeo Competition in Charleston, on Tuesday.

He competed against eight other backhoe operators around the state.

Mayor Bobby Horton said, “We are extremely proud to have a person with Mr. Bollinger’s talent as a member of our city staff to serve West Columbia.”

Bollinger will compete next Friday (July 21) in Rock Hill for the South Carolina versus North Carolina Border War Competition. He is eligible to compete in the National Competition this Fall in Orlando and next Fall in Kansas City. Bollinger competed in the West Columbia and Regional Backhoe Rodeos to advance to the State Competition.

A Backhoe Rodeo Competition is operators competing to demonstrate accuracy and precision skills with the use of a backhoe.
