Airport High linemen win strength awards at Big Man competition

Collyn Richardson and JC Redmond.

It’s the middle of summer, but high school football players are hard at work, getting ready for the gridiron in the fall.

Two Airport High School linemen recently picked up some awards as a payoff for their effort in the off-season.

Airport’s Collyn Richardson bench pressed 185 pounds, 35 times to win the Bench Press Award at the Big Man Challenge held at Lugoff-Elgin High School in late June. He also won the Tsunami Bar Farmers Carry at 315 pounds.

Fellow Airport Lineman JC Redmon won the Sled Pull by pulling it farther than anyone else.

Richardson is also the State High School Bench Press Champion. He bench pressed 425 pounds in the state weightlifting competition in March.

Airport head football coach Kirk Burnett said the Eagles have lots of power on the offensive and defensive lines. The lines will be a strength of the team.

Airport’s line has lots of beef- and strength- this year.
