You’re gonna need a bigger diaper.

Colin Austin Keisler is the heaviest baby ever born at Lexington Medical Center, as far as anyone can remember.

He was born on Friday morning to Lexington’s Cindy Richmond (she kept her maiden name) and her husband Arthur Keisler. Colin weighed 14 pounds and 0.4 ounces. He was 24 inches long.

He’s the size of a toddler at three-days-old said the baby’s father.The parents had to get bigger diapers and clothes just after Colin was born.Colin was the weight of a four-to-five-month-old baby.

Richmond said she could tell, especially during the last three months of her pregnancy, that her baby was big.

“Twelve or 13 pounds,” she said. But Colin, at more than 14 pounds, topped the highest guess by friends and relatives.

Donna Hinton has been an LMC nurse for 35 years. She has been in labor and delivery for 29 years.

“Oh my goodness,” is what she said when she saw Colin. She knew it was the biggest baby she’d ever seen during a delivery at the hospital. There are 3,500 babies born at LMC a year, second-highest in the state to Greenville.

Hinton was still surprised that the weigh-in revealed a 14-pounder.

Keisler said the baby- delivered by C-section – is healthy and Richmond said the discomfort of the last three months has been relieved, and she can now sleep better. Colin has a hearty appetite, too, his parents said.

As reporters and TV cameras surrounded little Colin, he slept through all the lights and chatter, oblivious to his celebrity status.

Jennifer Wilson, LMC’s public relations manager said the hospital has checked with the Department of Health and Environmental Control, to see if Colin holds the state record in weight. That answer has not been delivered. She also said the average weight of a newborn is 7.5 pounds.

Colin has a brother and sister. His brother, now 11, was 7 pounds and 6 ounces at birth. He is of average size now. Colin’s sister weighed 9 pounds and 8 ounces at birth. She’s tall for her age, but not off the charts, like Colin.

Wilson said there was a 13 pound and 12 ounce baby born at LMC in 1987.
