Richland County Coroner Gary Watts has released the name of the individual who died as a result of a shooting incident. The shooting occurred at approximately 10:15 p.m. on Saturday at 900 Taylor Street, Columbia.

Laron L. Martin, 37, of Carroll Drive, West Columbia was transported from the scene by Richland County EMS to Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital. He died at 2:37 a.m. on Sunday.  An autopsy indicated that the cause of death was due to a gunshot wound to the torso.

The Columbia Police Department is investigating the incident.
