Two officers and a man running from police were shot early Saturday morning.

At approximately 12:35 a.m. officers with the Cayce Department of Public Safety initiated a routine traffic stop, said Ashley Hunter, spokeswoman for the Cayce Department of Public Safety. The stop began on Knox-Abbott Drive near the Blossom Street Bridge in the City of Cayce. The vehicle being pulled traveled across the bridge and stopped near Williams Street in Columbia.

As officers approached the car the driver accelerated. Officers were able to catch up to the vehicle. It stopped again and at that time the driver fled the scene on foot.

Officers chased t the suspect into the woods. During that foot chase, the suspect fired multiple times at officers with a handgun. Both officers were hit and returned fire. The suspect was also hit and was taken into custody. Both officers and the suspect were transported to the hospital. Columbia, Richland County and USCPD officers assisted in the incident. As with all officer involved shootings in the City of Cayce, SLED was called in and is now investigating.
