Ribbon cut on Cayce’s repaired Newman Boat Landing
The Thomas E. Newman Boat Landing is officially reopened.
Cayce Mayor Elise Partin paid tribute to Newman (now deceased) Thursday. He was a veteran, an educator and a basketball coach at Brookland-Cayce High School.
The small ceremony to reopen the landing was held at the site off of 12th Street Extension, near Riverland Park, in Cayce. The popular landing had been closed after being damaged in the October 2015 flood.
Frankie Newman, the wife of Thomas Newman was on hand for the ceremony
The Newmans’ three sons: Scott, Tee and Heath were at the ceremony, too.
Partin said the boat landing is in much demand and boaters lined up to use it on March 9, the day the repair of the landing was completed.
She said the river is a source for striper and catfish.
Partin said 100 boats a week use the landing. It has 75 boat-trailer parking spaces.
