Lexington Sheriff investigates teenager, killed and burned
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death of a Columbia teen as a homicide.
Columbia firefighters found the teen in a wooded area of the 200 block of Columbiana Drive, according to detectives. He was treated for a bullet wound and burns before dying in an apartment complex parking lot close to where firefighters encountered him.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the teen as Keon Malik Brantley, 18, of Columbia. Brantley died of a bullet wound, according to Fisher.
“Investigators have canvassed the area where Mr. Brantley died,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “We’ve collected evidence from the site where we believe Mr. Brantley was originally injured as part of our effort to piece together what led to his death.”
Koon said anyone with information about what might have happened to Brantley should call Crimestoppers at 888-CRIME-SC. Information can also be shared by texting “TIPSC” along with your message to CRIMES (274637). Tipsters don’t have to share their name with Crimestoppers and they could become eligible for a cash reward.
