West Columbia City Council honors late Councilman Dale Harley at meeting
The West Columbia City Council honored the late Councilman Dale Harley at its meeting Tuesday.
Harley, mayor pro tem of West Columbia, passed away on March 23.
Council, on Tuesday, approved a resolution honoring Harley. And State Senator Nikki Setzler came and presented Sandy Harley with a resolution from the South Carolina Senate, recognizing Harley for his contributions. Dale and Sandy were married for 55 years.
Setzler said there was never a time in his life he did not know Harley. He also said he treasured his friendship.
At Harley’s seat on council, a vase of flowers was placed.
Mayor Bobby Horton noted that Harley was a founding member of the West Columbia Beautification Foundation, and part of the planning for the new city hall and Riverwalk.
Councilman Tem Miles called Harley a great family man who will be missed as a valued friend.
Councilman Tommy Parler was chosen mayor pro tem to finish Harley’s term. until the end of this year.
A special election will be held on June 20 to fill Harley’s unexpired term that ends in November. His wife Sandy has expressed in interest in replacing her late husband.
