Construction crews worked overnight Saturday, while I-26 was closed, Saturday into Sunday morning to remove portions of the Leaphart Road bridge over I-26. The interstate, in West Columbia, had reopened by Sunday morning.

Leaphart is a heavily traveled road that carried traffic going to Pineview Elementary School. The bridge was closed permanently on March 24 after being deemed structurally unsafe. Motorists who relied on the road are taking alternate routes that include detours to Sunset Boulevard and US 1.
