Lexington 2 breaks ground on new CATE Center

Lexington School District 2 Board members broke ground on the the District’s new CATE (or Career and Technology ) Center Thursday. It’s on Bulldog Boulevard in Cayce, next to Busbee Creative Arts Academy and the new Cayce Elementary School that is being built.

Pictured are Board Members Beth Branham, Cindy Kessler, Kevin Key, Brad Giles and Chairwoman Linda Alford-Wooten. Lexington Two’s Joni Coleman was on-site too. She will be the director of the career center when it is opened. Bernie Adkins will be the assistant.

Wooten said the new facility will be one of the premier learning centers in the state and the nation. She also said the center – off of 12th Street Extension- is in an industrial corridor and that will allow for 2Astudents to partner with the many businesses in the vicinity.

Don Icenhower, Lexington Two’s Chief Operations Officer, said the building will have a space so for big events. He said the Foundation dinners for Airport High School and Brookland-Cayce High School, can be hosted there. The facility will have a stage and theater seating.
A lot of wonderful opportunities will come to our school system due to this building,” Icenhower said.
