The Lexington 2 School Board approved the plan to add onto, and to upgrade Springdale Elementary School, Thursday.

It will take one year to complete. The cost is $10.7 million. Boomerang Design is working on the project and M.B Kahn is the construction company contracted.

Lexington 2 Superintendent Dr. Bill James said the OK by the board, at Thursday’s meeting, set the process in motion to move students out of Springdale while the construction is going on. They will be moved to the Davis Early Childhood Center for Technology at 2305 Frink Street, Cayce. Transportation will be provided for all students affected by the displacement.

Board Member Beth Branham suggested the scheduling of meetings with parents to explain the re-routing of students from Springdale to Davis for the 2017-18 school year.

The Springdale upgrades presented Thursday night at the Lexington 2 Board meeting.

Additions to Springdale Elementary include a new reception area; new cafeteria; 3K classrooms; relocated parking; and more windows. It will have a airport hangar motif in keeping with the history of the area.

The 18 original classrooms of the school, that was built in 1966, will be refurbished.

“It will be as close to a new school as we can give them,” said Don Isenhower, Chief Operations Officer.

He said the old glazed, green block in the halls of the school would be painted.

The school’s old cafeteria will be transformed into a new media center.

The exterior of the school will be chemically cleaned and paint will be applied in appropriate areas.
