It’s going to be a cold night, but a hot time. Coming off of Brookland-Cayce’s 14-7 win at Bluffton last Friday, the next game just gets bigger.

The Bearcats will host Dillon at 7:30 p.m. Friday, for the Lower State Championship. The weather prediction is for temperatures in the 20s overnight Friday.

BC is coming off of an upset in a game that required unrelenting defense.
“We have a lot of senior leadership on the defensive side of the ball,” said BC head Coach Rusty Charpia.
Quentin Hook, Tay Pringle, Sammy Lykes, Cam Brown, Travis Loadholt, Phillip Anderson, Raycron Williams, Zion Caraway and Mike Williams are all seniors who play defense for BC. The Bearcats held Bluffton to seven points. Charpia said his offensive line blocked well at Bluffton and BC was able to pick up some crucial first downs to maintain possession.

The Wildcats will pose another stiff test.
“Dillon has won four state championships in a row,” said BC head Coach Rusty Charpia.
And before losing 7-3 to Mallard Creek of Charlotte in August, Dillon had won 37 consecutive games. The Wildcats have won six state titles in the past eight years. Dillon is the 3A, Region 6 Champion this year, with a 12-1 record.

It’s a great record, but BC also has a 12-1 record.
“It’s the most games ever won by a Brookland-Cayce team,” Charpia points out. And he has faith in his team versus Dillon.
“I believe we can win,” said Charpia. “We need to keep it close and have a chance in the fourth quarter.”
The Bearcats and the Wildcats have a common opponent this year. Dillon defeated Strom Thurmond in the S.C. State Playoffs by a score of 51-19. The Bearcats beat the Rebels – a regular season 3A, Region 5 opponent- by a score of 28-6. Both teams played at Strom Thurmond.

Charpia also said Dillon wins with a team full of high-quality players. He said several on the Wildcats’ roster are commitments to play college football after they graduate from Dillon.
“They are a juggernaut,” Charpia said. “They are a tough team to beat.”
