SCDOT to end I-26 lane reversal Friday
The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT), in conjunction with our partners at DPS, SLED, DNR, and National Guard, plans to remove the lane reversal on I-26 tomorrow morning, Friday, October 7, 2016.
The process for returning I-26 to normal operations will begin by law enforcement stopping traffic from entering the reversed lanes at I-526 in Charleston.
DPS will then begin the process of removing traffic control points on I-26 EB from Charleston to Columbia. Once the traffic control points have been removed and a final check has been performed, all lanes will return to normal operations. This process could take three hours or more.
Westbound I-26 will remain open during this operation, except for intermittent closures.
All motorists evacuating the coastal area are strongly encouraged to leave prior to the time as SCDOT, DPS, SLED, DNR, and National Guard personnel will be returning to their office quarters until the storm has passed.
