The latest Hurricane Matthew forecast for Lexington County
Hurricanes are hard to predict.
But the chance for rain associated with Hurricane Matthew is predicted to increase Thursday night in Lexington County.
Wind gusts are expected to pick up to about 10-to-15 mph overnight Thursday, according to the National Weather Service forecast from late Wednesday afternoon.
Even stronger winds associated with Matthew are forecast to affect the the county late Friday night into Saturday, but there is still some uncertainty in trying to predict the storm’s path.
Hurricane Matthew is predicted to make it to South Carolina’s coast Saturday, according to the National Hurricane Center.
It is a strong Category 3 hurricane. As of late Wednesday afternoon, forecasters think it will restrengthen as it moves toward the east coast of Florida.
By the time Matthew gets to South Carolina, Matthew is expected to be a Category 2 or 3 hurricane. Even if the eye of Hurricane Matthew does not directly hit South Carolina, the state could still experience tropical storm or hurricane conditions.
The exact track forecast remains uncertain, but residents from southeast SC/GA, especially along the immediate coast, should prepare for sustained hurricane-force winds of more than 74 mph. There is also the possibility of coastal flooding, heavy rainfall and maybe even isolated tornadoes.
