West Columbia City Council voted to designate the property at 130 State St. as “Historic Property” at its Tuesday council meeting.

With the designation, the building receives “Special Property Tax Assessments for Rehabilitated Historic Properties.”

The property at 130 State was – for years- the home of Clark’s Beauty Shop. The popular two-story, half-brick, half-tile storefront location, with two small show windows, could use some repair.

Council gave the property the special designation in hopes that the refurbishing of  it would lead to an overall remodel of all the buildings that need it, on State Street.
