Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the victim that is believed to have drowned on the Congaree River in Lexington County at approximately around noon on Saturday.

Coroner Fisher states  Marvin E. Browne, 63, of Gaston,was with a friend in an approximately 10-ft.  non-motorized John boat when the boat overturned.  Neither was wearing a life vest and Browne could not swim according to witnesses.  Browne was pulled to shore by several swimmers who witnessed the boat overturn,  but life saving attempts were unsuccessful.  Browne was pronounced dead at the scene.  The other victim was transported to an area hospital and released.

An autopsy will be performed on Sunday  to determine the cause of death.

The S.C. Department of Natural Resources and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident.
