In December, plans for a hotel across from Lexington Medical Center on Sunset Boulevard, West Columbia, were announced.

Construction has begun on that hotel, on three acres of land at 134 Mathias Road.

Initial plans called for a 108-room hotel. The $12 million hotel will be a Residence Inn by Marriott, upscale, extended-stay accommodations.

The hotel will feature a full kitchen, meeting space and business center for business travelers and for families with members in the hospital.

The hotel will be on three acres. The entire site consists of ±7.42 acres, with ±4.42 acres remaining for purchase.
