Billboard promotes BC Grammar’s Palmetto’s Finest Award
Brookland-Cayce Grammar School No. 1 was named as a 2016 Palmetto’s Finest school, in March.
“It’s an honor,”said BC Grammar Principal Walter Clark. “It’s difficult to find words to express how thrilled we are.”
Since winning the award, the owners of McGee Real Estate in West Columbia, wanted to do something to commemorate the accomplishment.
Carroll and Ted McGee are funding a digital billboard for the month of May. The billboard displays an image of Clark, Carroll McGee and seven BC Grammar students, with a “Congratulations” from McGee Real Estate. Thousands of travelers-a-day can see the billboard.
It’s great to be a part of BC Grammar’s celebration,” said Carroll McGee.
He is a former Lexington School District 2 Board member. McGee also worked recently on the district’s committee to help fund new school construction.
Ted McGee, Carroll’s brother, said helping bring attention to local schools, and education leaders, is a noble endeavor.
“Recognizing our schools is very important,” said Ted McGee. “And I’ve known Walter Clark for a long time. He’s a good man. He deserves a lot of credit for all he does in the community.”
District Superintendent Dr. Bill James said the Palmetto’s Finest Award is something big, and deserves the attention surrounding it.
“This does not happen very often,” James said. “It’s certainly something we’re proud of.”
The billboard is on Augusta Road, near the Georgetown Shopping Center, not far from the Hook Avenue location of BC Grammar.
The Palmetto’s Finest Award recognizes schools “which offer excellent instruction and outstanding leaders, augmented by strong family and community involvement and a supportive business community.”
There were only four Palmetto’s Finest Awards given out, statewide, this year.
