Saluda River Academy for the Arts’ Arts Unlimited students, teachers, and parents woke up during the wee hours of the morning on Saturday (Feb. 20) to travel to Hilton Head.

The students performed at the prestigious South Carolina School Board Association’s annual convention.

These students, who were invited to perform, wowed everyone from State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman, to board members, administrators, and teachers from across the state. Even Saluda River’s resident author, Dr. Crystal Ball O’Connor, made an appearance.

After the performance, students made a brief stop at the beach, visited the famous Harbour Town Lighthouse, and enjoyed a delicious lunch at Wayback Burgers.

The school and district administration are so proud of the fabulous way Arts Unlimited students represented SRAA and Lexington 2 through the arts!

Arts Unlimited is a small ensemble selected from third, fourth, and fifth grade students at Saluda River. Directors include: Gale McLeod, music teacher; Kayla Jennings, dance teacher; Stephanie Walker, theatre teacher; Nina Brumble, visual art teacher; and accompanist Cathy McGill, retired Advanced Elementary Program teacher. The principal of Saluda River Academy is Tonya Fryer.

Saluda River Academy of the Arts would like to thank their sponsors who made the Arts Unlimited trip to Hilton Head Island possible: Jumper, Carter Sease Architects – breakfast and Harbour Town Lighthouse tour, Hilton Head Harbour Town Lighthouse and Museum – guided tour of the lighthouse, and Lexington School District 2 – charter bus for the trip.
