Precinct workers say voter turnout strong
As voters in West Columbia go to the polls to elect a mayor, and new council members, workers at precincts say turnout is heavy.
David Cobb and Sandra Dodd are working the Westover Precinct at Providence Presbyterian Church, on Hummingbird Drive.
“We have had 270 voters come in,” Dodd said. She said the precinct is on pace to reach 500 voters by 7 p.m., when polls close. The 270 had voted by 12:30 p.m.
Elory Denton, Gloria Neal and Betty Sturkie are the poll workers at the Hook Store Precinct that votes in BC Grammar School No. 1.
Denton said there had been 140 voters just after noon.
